Terminal 1 at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris was designed by Paul Andreu in the image of an octopus. While the buildings circular center houses key operations such as check-in and baggage claim, the gates are housed in seven satellite buildings connected via underground walkways. Ultimately, because passengers were disappointed that Terminal 1’s layout does not allow for clear viewing of airplanes outside, more traditional designs were implemented for CDG terminals 2 and 3.
