Date or date range: 1960s
Still in production: no
Rare: yes
Still attainable from: not available
Value: unknown; a nonfunctional Bradley flip clock has sold for $68 (see seller notes)
Use: This is a wind-up clock with an option to set a time for an old-fashioned continuous alarm bell ring. Someone may have used it for waking up in the morning, or as a desk clock. The clock’s numbers are shown on a small cards, which flip down when the hour or the minute changes; if wound once a day, the clock remains fairly accurate. (However, the “7″ hour card sometimes gets stuck, so the clock must be shaken at 8pm.) It also emits a ticking sound that caused one visitor to the Bureau to ask whether something was “going to explode in here.”
Note: this clock is currently in use at the archivist’s desk.
