Libraries at the Crossroads

Americans believe libraries are important community institutions and profess interest in libraries offering a range of new program possibilities. Our new report, out today, found that:

- Two-thirds of Americans (65%) ages 16 and older say that closing their local public library would have a major impact on their community.
- 78% of adults say libraries should definitely offer programs to teach digital tools such as computers, smartphones and apps
- Community activists are more likely to visit their local library with 63% doing so in the prior year, compared to 46% of all Americans ages 16 and older
