Wrong side out

The SFMTA recently installed additional screening at the Market & Church Muni platform. The new panels match the existing shelter and would provide a system map for reference, only it was installed backwards with the map facing traffic instead of towards the passengers standing on the platform. Who might be curious if the J is the line which will get them where they’re going or not.

We already tipped off the SFMTA and ClearChannel Outdoor, which manages the shelters, advertising, and most likely the ones who made the mistake installing it.

But the placement of the large advertisement at the front of the platform is what really concerns us, and it’s not isolated to this platform. It’s somewhich runs against the City’s Vision Zero goal of improved pedestrian safety. The ad is literally a wall placed in the way of a driver’s view and any approaching pedestrians hidden behind.
