jarrettfuller:

Denise Scott Brown, the architect and writer perhaps most known as one half of Venturi, Scott Brown and Associates and co-writer of Learning from Los Vegas, has been taking photos since the 1950s for research, documentation, and planning for her studio. She sees the camera as a critical tool, something to help her in her practice. “I’m not a photographer. I shoot for architecture—if there’s art here it’s a by-product.”

Despite this humble sensibility, Scott Brown’s photos are on display at the Venice Architecture Biennale and will be published in a book later this year. Metropolis magazine has a great selection of her photos, as well as Scott Brown’s commentary and reflections on photography throughout her studio work. The images are striking in their vibrancy, their composition, and their dynamism. Scott Brown may argue these were created for research, but I see some very, very exciting street photography.
