I remember this. I grew up in New York City but had made Germany my home, and was visiting New York for the very first time in my life, this is 1993. Times Square had been cleaned up – polished like a shoe – and all the old theaters had these haiku on them.
It was beautiful and sad. It was like the flower that a plant produces, right before it dies.
