A t-shirt generating algorithm that would automatically pen slogans and offer the designs on Amazon has also generated a huge amount of media attention by creating controversial slogans regarding rape. It has brought to the public’s attention what algorithmically generated cultural content is, how prolific and widespread it can be, how it can fail, and who is to blame when it goes wrong. The software/ t-shirt company director was forced to issue an apology which also reads as a beginners guide to algorithms used for cultural and commercial purposes.
