Why does the Internet respond as it does to the work of Jeff Koons? I believe that Koons’s work provokes a particularly vehement response in the digital world, and I want to find out why.

He creates massive, highly polished, aesthetically easy, superficially quaint physical objects. And employs an army to do the labor. To me this seems about as opposite as you can get to what many might consider a digital ethos. An ethos that favors DIY and, at least in net art, a rather scrappy/intentionally sloppy/jagged aesthetic.
He also represents what many consider to be the worst manifestation of the art market as he is among the tippiest top earners as far as how much he commands.
…I could probably add a lot more to this if I had the time. :/ But I look forward to seeing where this goes…
