Designer Pride
I’m gay. At one point the thought of admitting I was gay drove me to tears and very nearly to suicide. I grew up as that kid in class everyone picked on, beat up, called a faggot, and being in special ed only made matter worse.
Growing up gay, knowing only humiliation and bullying in school, and living in fear your family will disown you takes a toll,
“Each year, one out of every three gay, lesbian or bisexual students in the San Francisco Unified School District reportedly attempts suicide. For transgender students, that number jumps to nearly one in two.”
I only intended to write about design and transportation on this blog, but this is exactly why June is celebrated as gay pride month and we make a big show of being here and queer.
The gay agenda is really nothing more than showing life won’t doesn’t end with coming out, or the bullying in school. Putting up rainbows everywhere is a way to say “see you can be gay and still be…” whatever it is you hope to be.
(That javascript book is about 15 years old, but I have yet to acquire a green-spined design or development book)
