boat-tram-233

Muni received a very special delivery from yesterday: a second open-topped “boat tram” from Blackpool, England. The one we have already have is easily the most unique streetcar in the San Francisco fleet. And its also one the rarest to actually see on the F-line for any number of reasons including the fact it can only run in good weather, but the addition of a second Blackpool tram will double the chance of catching it.

No. 233 was acquired for Muni by the non-profit Market Street Railway. The member-supported organization funds a lot of the extras on the F-line from the flags for each of their home cities and the historic information placards aboard all the way up to donating streetcars and paint.

We’ll have much more to say about this here in a few days, but for now, we just want to thank Michael Thoresen, the most generous donor who made the acquisition possible through the Thoresen Foundation, and FedEx Trade Networks, which arranged and helped underwrite the shipping of the tram from England to San Francisco.
