Cover: A person with a blond bob standing in the middle, wearing a large blue cape/cloak, back to the reader. The cape has gold embroidery on it of various symbols, including the sun, the moon, a hand holding up a snake, flowers, and blades of wheat. The title is part of this embroidery and it reads, "Vitality and the Necromancer."ALT

Vitality, girl king of a desperate kingdom, has hired a necromancer to bring her people back.

The necromancer arrives.

A comic in five parts, entirety of it under the cut. Image descriptions in the alt text.

Part 1: The necromancer arrives

Page 1: Text at top: "PART 1: The Necromancer Arrives." A full page image of a person in the distance walking up a path to a castle, surrounded by tiny houses. It is nighttime and raining, with a full moon. Colours are a deep purple, except for the pale yellow moon. Overlaid at the bottom of the image are two smaller panels. Panel 1: A person from the shoulders up, standing in front of a door. They have their hood up, and it is obscuring most of their face. They let out a breath, "phew." Panel 2: Same shot of the person, but a small smile can be seen from what is visible of their face. They lift up a hand to knock on the door, "Toc toc toc."ALT
Page 2: Three panels stacked vertically. We are inside the castle, and the walls and curtains in this room are a deep red. Panel 1: Vitality, girl king, has straight blonde hair to her chin and wears a circlet on her head. She is wearing a massive cloak, that looks almost purple from the light of the red room she is in. We see her from her shoulders up. She stands, looking out a window at the rainy night and full moon. Text reads, "The necromancer arrives the night before he's expected." There is some sound effect text, which reads, "swish, swish" Panel 2: Vitality turns away from the window to face us. Her cloak is held in place at her neck by a red brooch. She tugs at the cloak and looks to her right and down, at where the sound effect, swish, swish, is coming from. Text reads, "Despite this, I am ready." Panel 3: We zoom out to see Vitality standing and looking down at her cloak while an older lady with a grey bun and wearing a white apron brushes at her cloak, swish, swish. Text reads, "As I always wear my father's royal cloak."ALT
Page 3: Four panels, laid out in three rows. The second row has two smaller panels. Panel 1: We see Vitality from the knees down, walking to right side of the page. Her massive cloak drags behind her. Text reads, "(I have refused, time and time again, to get it fitted)" Panel 2: We see from Vitality's POV, her hand pushing a door open to a room with warm yellow walls and tall windows. In the room we see a man passing a wet cloak to a butler type person. This man was the person who knocked on the door on page 1. Panel 3: Same POV, Vitality's hand pushing open the door even more. The butler walks away as the unknown man noticed Vitality and turns to face her. Panel 4: A large panel, from behind Vitality. We see her look at the necromancer who bows to her.ALT
Page 4: Four panels stacked vertically. The background colours shift over the four panels, from a warm yellow to a pinker orange, to a pastel pink, to a dreamy lavender. Panel 1: The necromancery from the shoulder up, looking up from his bow, hair dripping, and smiling. Text reads, "When he smiles at me, I feel joy." Panel 2: Vitality from the shoulder up, looking surprised and blushing, her hand raised almost to her face. Text reads, "How kind and handsome I find him." Panel 3: The necromancer's hand extending out, palm up, from the right side of the panel, shrouded in a light blue. Text reads, "When he extends his hand, I feel hope." Panel 4: Vitality's hand reaching out to meet his i tnhe middle, fingers barely touching his palm. Both their hands shrouded in a slightly more opaque light blue. Text reads, "Who's been left to reach out to me, these past years?"ALT
Page 5: Full page image, of Vitality and the necromancer, surrounded by large dreamy clouds of pastel pinks, blues, and purples, little sparkles in the air. We see the necromancer from behind as he gestures with his right hand, and holds up Vitality's hand with his left. Vitality we see in profile, as she looks up at the necromancer, enamoured. Text reads, "When he lays out the plan, I feel vindication. Finally, someone who doesn't think it's delusional, who can make it happen."ALT

Part 2: I give him my gold

Page 6: Text at top reads, "PART 2: I give him my gold." Three panels laid out in two rows. Panel 1: A large panel of Vitality and the necromancer at a breakfast table, food and tea on the table between them. Vitality wears her cloak as always, and has the gold circlet on her head. She lifts a cup up, and the necromancer has his eyes closed, gesturing with his cutlery. Text reads, "The necromancer says we have to start gather our materials." Panel 2: Close up of Vitality's hand lifting her cup of tea to her mouth. We see some rings on her fingers. By the tea cup, the text reads, "Strong black tea to wake them up." By the gold rings the text reads, "Gold to tempt them back." Panel 3: The panel is mostly a rectangle but at the bottom breaks into shattered pieces. A large hammer smashes against an anvil, the background colour a hot pink. The text reads, "A hammer to weaken the divide."ALT
Page 7: Two small panels at the top laid over a full image. Panel 1: Close up of Vitality's hand pouring out some olive oil into a little dish, next to some bread on a board. Text reads, "Oil to smooth the ride." Panel 2: Vitality's hand holding up a honey dipper with honey dripping off of it. Text reads, "And honey to sweeten the deal." Full image at the bottom is of Vitality and the necromancer at the breakfast table again, meal done. He drinks his tea. Text reads, "He is very knowledgeable like that."ALT
Page 8: One full page panel of Vitality and the necromancer standing by large wooden doors that open into a room with a small pile of gold in the middle. Vitality leans in to look at the room while the necromancer has a hand to his face looking thoughtful. A fly flies off the mound in the centre. Text reads, "We start work immediately: I show him our stores of gold. He says we might not have enough."ALT
Page 9: Five panels laid out across three rows, 2, 1, 2. Panel 1: Close up of Vitality's face in profile looking sad. Text reads, "This is true-- of everything." Panel 2: Vitality turns away from the door, still a close up of her face. Text reads, "Not enough people to work the fields." Panel 3: Wide panel of a meadow with some sheep grazing. Text reads, "Not enough people to mind the flocks. Not enough people to fill the halls." Panel 4: Close up of the necromancer's face, strained smile on his face and nervous sweat. Text reads, "'Don't worry,' he says". Panel 5: Close up of Vitality's face, hand almost up to her face, and blushing. Text reads, "(This is the second time he ha smiled right at me.")ALT
Page 10: Two panels stacked vertically. Panel 1: Vitality and the necromancer, still in front of the doors, waist up. The necromancer has a hand on her back and gestures with his other hand, looking confident. Text reads, "He says, 'You have a beautiful kingdom with much to offer.'" Panel 2: They are inside the store room, looking through the items, the necromancer sitting cross legged while Vitality leans forward on her knees. Text reads, "He leads me back to the old stores where we mark what to sell and trade."ALT
Page 11: Four panels laid out over three rows, 1, 2, 1. Panel 1: Close up the necromancer and Vitality from the elbows up, looking at each other. He holds up her cloak between them. Text reads, "He smiles at me even more." Panel 2: The necromancer, looking down at the edge of the cloak he is holding and smiling. Text reads, "'Your cloak?' he asks." Panel 3: Vitality looking furious and yanking her cloak back from him, large YANK sound effect. She is coloured in an angry hot pink. Panel 4: Same shot as panel 1, but Vitality has turned away, whistling, to look at a fork, while the necromancer is stuck in his previous position, looking shocked, sweating nervously. Text reads, "He does not ask again."ALT

Part 3: I give him my heart

Page 12: Text at top reads, "PART 3: I give him my heart." 5 panels, laid out in three rows, 2, 2, 1. Vitality wears her blue cloak as always, but is no longer wearing her gold circlet. Panel 1: The two of them at the breakfast table again, Vitality drinking tea while the necromancer reads through a list. Text reads, "Weeks pass." Panel 2: Vitality reading out loud from a list, directing people around her who carry a large rolled up carpet and other things. Text reads, "We are busy selling, bartering, and trading whatever we can to get what we need." Panel 3: Vitality looking closer at her list in silence, a "..." in a thought bubble. Text reads, "Most important of which, he says," Panel 4: Close up of Vitality hands as she lifts a necklace out of an intricate wooden box. Text reads, "is the gold." Panel 5: Vitality sitting at a dressing table in a large bedroom, looking through the various jewelry that was in the wooden box. Text reads, "For the purposes of the work, he says the gold must be in bricks."ALT
Page 13: Two large panels stacked vertically. Panel 1: We see the necromancer from behind, wearing protective gear, and standing next to a blacksmith, who is pouring out molten gold into molds. The background is a hot orange colour. Text reads, "Every day he goes to the forge to watch the work. Panel 2: Vitality, opening a door into the forge and peeking in, holding up the wooden jewelry box. Text reads, "Every day I go too."ALT
Page 14: Three panels laid out vertically. Panel 1: The necromancer with his face shield on, completely coloured in in a hot orange, against a vibrant red. Panel 2: The necromancer lifting his face shield up and smiling, coloured in more normal colours. His face is flushed from the heat. Text reads, "I am getting cocky and smug." Panel 3: Vitality holding up the jewelry box to the necromancer, who pulls out a necklace and looks at it, pleased. Text reads, "I expect the smiles now."ALT
Page 15: Four panels laid out across three rows, 1, 2, 1. We are in a dark green room. Panel 1: They are sitting on chair, Vitality looking up from her knitting while the necromancer has his arms crossed, sitting casually, and smiling at her. Text reads, "Sometimes in the evenings he asks for music." Panel 2: Close up Vitality looking pensive, a "..." thought bubble. Panel 3: Vitality calling over and talking to the butler we saw on an earlier page. The butler bows. Panel 4: The butler, the older woman with the grey bun from earlier, and a young girl with twin braids, all play some music together. The butler is on the triangle, the young girl on the flute, the older woman holding up some kind of hand held percussion instrument. Text reads, "We accommodate as best as we can, and he never complains."ALT
Page 16: Four panels laid out across three rows, 1, 2, 1. Panel 1: The necromancer joins the three musicians from before. The young girl is jamming on her flute, the others are smiling and singing. The background colour is a lighter green with cloud shapes starting. Panel 3: He raises a finger in a "pause" motion. The background colour shift continues. Panel 4: The necromancer bows and holds a hand out to Vitality, who looks up from her chair, blushing and mouth open. Text reads, "And sometimes, he asks for a dance." The background has an even lighter green cloud shape taking over.ALT
Page 17: Full page image, with two smaller panels overlaid at the bottom. The full image is that of the necromancer and Vitality dancing. We see him from the back, but we see her face looking up at his face. The background evokes a garden, with large green leaves coming up from the bottom, and pink blossoms behind them, against a light blue sky. Panel 1: A close up of their heads, as the necromancer leands forward to whisper in her ear. She looks up, concentrating on what he is saying. We do not know what that is. Panel 2: Close up of Vitality face in profile, as she looks down and her hair falls forward. She blushes, looking pleased.ALT

Part 4: I give him my secret

Page 18: Text at top reads, "PART 4: I give him my secret." Five panels laid out over three rows, 2, 1, 2. All have a pink background. Panel 1: Vitality is whistling to her herself, folding up her cloak. We see her only in a white shirt and the tunic she wears over it. The brooch is still at her neck. Text reads, "The night before the casting, he visits me." Panel 2: Vitality looking up as she continues to fold her cloak, reacting to the "toc toc toc" coming off screen. Panel 3: The necromancer is sitting next to Vitality. Her hands are on the folded cloack which rests on her lap. Text reads, "'Are you ready?' he asks. I tell him, 'Of course.'" Panel 3: Vitality looks off screen at him, silent. Her speech bubble reads, "..." Panel 4: The necromancer continues, looking at her off-screen. His speech bubble reads, "Nearly and entire kingdom gone... It must have been difficult, with so few people around all those years." Panel 5: Vitality again, looking down and off screen away from him. Her speech bubble reads, "Yes."ALT
Page 20: Four panels laid out across three rows, 1, 2, 1. Panel 1: Both are in view, and she looks up at him, eager and hopeful. Her speech bubble reads, "But after tomorrow, they'll be back!" Page 21: Full page image showing a sequence of events. At the very top we see Vitality leaning forwards to speak to the necromancer, though we don't see any words. We see them only from the shoulders up, as the rest of the image is taken over by purple clouds, starting from a mid purple going down the page to a darker one. Five images make up the sequence of events: 1: A nursemaid holds her hand up to a very young Vitality's forehead. She looks like she has a fever, and is holding to a large teddy bear by the paw. 2: Vitality in bed, looking ill. The image is slightly more red-toned than the previous one. 3: Vitality waking up, looking better and clutching her teddy bear. More red-toned than the previous image. 4: Vitality on her knees shaking her nursemaid's body that has fallen to the ground, more red-toned. She looks scared, and is still clutching her teddy bear. 5: a small figure in shadow walks down a hallway with large windows, red light spilling from them to the groundALT
Page 22/23: A double page spread made up of red clouds. Three images: 1: young Vitality peering around a door, looking even more scared. All in red. 2: A man collapsed in his chair, by a bed where a woman lays, eyes closed and mouth open. The man wears a circlet, and a large cloak. The woman has a brooch at her neck. All in red. 3: Taking up the majority of the two page spread is a young Vitality wearing the large blue cloak, from behind. Hands reach out to place a circlet on her head.ALT
Page 24: Two panel-less images of Vitality and the necromancer. They are both coloured in in red, and surrounded by purple clouds. Image 1: The necromancer has an arm around Vitality's shoulders while she leans forward onto the cloak she has folded up on her lap, crying. His speech bubble reads, "It wasn't your fault, you know, you can't keep blaming yourself." Image 2: The necromancer hugging Vitality closer as she cries into his arms. Panel 4: Vitality takes a drink from the cup. Text reads "Bees swarm the hives we have laid out." Panel 4: We see Vitality from the elbows up as she spills out the tea from her cup and looks down at it. Text reads, "Everything is ready but for him and the gold he has stolen."ALT
