The scratches and orange crosses on many of the photographs on the cover and following pages are not defects. They were made by Marilyn Monroe herself, her own reactions to various shots that showed a strand of hair out of place or a pose she felt was somehow awkward. We thought her markings were so interesting that we decided to leave them in.
