Turkey Point Nuclear Generating Station
Homestead, Florida, USA
25°26′3″N 80°19′50″W
The Turkey Point Nuclear Generating Station in Homestead, Florida is surrounded by an extensive network on cooling canals. Water used to cool the nuclear reactors is sent on a two day journey from the plant (seen here in upper left) through the 168 mile canal system before it is circulated back for reuse. Because the water in the canals is extremely warm and salty, it has also become a preferred habitat and refuge for the North American Crocodile.
