Ozymandias as thinkpiece writer.

(I know that Alan Moore got cross when fans supposedly liked all the bits in Watchmen where Rorschach is an awesome scary badass and ignored the bits where he is a horrible smelly psychopath - my own version of this was THIS PANEL, where Adrian Veidt watches a whole wall of TVs to take the pulse of the culture. Aged 14 I thought this was an AWESOME scene and to be honest it probably had a very formative effect on my deciding to become a critic - maybe even a researcher… obviously I was ignoring the context of Ozy’s Commercial Semiotics 101 demo, which is that Ozymandias is a dick. A couple of years ago at a conference I heard someone talk about Gatorade’s Social Media “War Room”, which involved a wall full of real time twitter feeds and facebook analytics and, yes, TVs. The dream is real! Except sitting watching tweets about Gatorade all day sounded a bit sad and unfulfilling and very much not the hobby of a Modern Alexander. But at least no social media manager ever nuked New York City with a psychic octopus.)
