Car loading ramps for the Eurotunnel train shuttle at the entrance to the Channel Tunnel in Coquelles, France. The tunnel spans 31.4 miles (50.5 km) and contains the longest undersea portion of any tunnel in the world at 23.5 miles (37.9 km). Construction began in 1988, was completed in 1994, and cost £4.650 billion (approximately $8 billion) to complete.
